Our Approach

Green Chemistry, applied to the field

Green Chemistry is a design discipline: build the safety and the degradability into the molecule from the start, rather than managing the consequences afterwards.

Designed green, not made green afterwards

Most efforts to make agricultural chemistry safer begin with an existing active ingredient and work backwards — reducing a dose, adding a buffer, restricting an application window. The underlying molecule is unchanged; only its handling is.

Green Chemistry inverts that. The properties you want at the end — low toxicity, ready biodegradation, no accumulation in soil, water or the food chain — become constraints at the start, alongside efficacy. A molecule that cannot meet them is not developed further.

This is why CraftDyne describes its products as formulated on IUPAC Green Chemistry principles rather than simply as eco-friendly. It refers to how the chemistry was arrived at, not just how it is marketed.

The principles that shape our formulations

The IUPAC Green Chemistry framework runs to twelve principles. These are the ones that most directly determine how an EcoAgta product is designed.

  • Prevention over treatment

It is better to prevent waste than to treat or clean it up after it has been created.

  • Designing safer chemicals

Products should do their intended job while minimising toxicity — efficacy and safety designed together, not traded off.

  • Design for degradation

Products should break down into innocuous substances at the end of their function rather than persisting in the environment.

  • Safer solvents and auxiliaries

Auxiliary substances should be avoided where possible, and harmless where they are necessary.

  • Renewable feedstocks

Raw materials should be renewable rather than depleting wherever it is technically and economically practicable.

  • Inherently safer chemistry

Substances should be chosen to minimise the potential for chemical accidents, including releases and fires.

What this means on your farm

  • For the person spraying

Non-toxic and non-poisonous formulations mean the handling risk that shapes so much of conventional spray practice is substantially reduced.

  • For the land

Completely readily biodegradable inputs do not accumulate season after season in the soil or the water table.

  • For the produce

No harm to the food chain matters commercially as well as ethically — particularly for growers supplying export and residue-sensitive markets.

  • For the season

Long-lasting performance from a single application means fewer passes, less labour, and less fuel across the crop cycle.

Our commitments

  • Safe for people

Non-toxic and non-poisonous formulations, designed with the person holding the sprayer in mind — the one most exposed to any farm input.

  • Safe for animals

Formulated to be safe around livestock, working animals and the pollinators the crop itself depends on.

  • No harm to air, water or soil

Ready biodegradation means no accumulating residue in the ground water or the topsoil that has to sustain the next season.

  • No harm to the food chain

What is applied to the crop should not follow it to the table. This is a design requirement, not an afterthought.

What "readily biodegradable" means

Biodegradability is not a binary property. A substance can degrade eventually, degrade only under specific conditions, or degrade readily under the ordinary conditions found in soil and water.

CraftDyne products are described as completely readily biodegradable — the last of those. In practice this means the material is broken down by naturally occurring processes in normal field conditions, rather than requiring particular temperatures, treatment or time horizons.

The practical consequence for a grower is the absence of a slow accumulation problem. Inputs that persist build up over seasons; inputs that degrade readily do not.

Responsible use still matters

Designing an input to be safe does not remove the grower's responsibility to use it correctly. Always read the product label, apply at the recommended rate for your crop and growth stage, and follow standard good practice for handling and storing any farm input. Where you are unsure, ask us — we would rather answer a question than have a product used outside its intended conditions.
